Echo: Ryerson's Flash Media Development Server

Introduction

Welcome to Echo, Ryerson University's Flash Media development server. This server is provided by Ryerson's Computing and Communications Services as a test platform for the development of new applications and services based on Adobe's Flash Media Server. Echo has been available since early 2003. The earliest experiments we did, with what was then Macromedia's Flash Communication Server, are still described here.

Flash Media Related Services at Ryerson

A number of services are available at Ryerson that make use of Flash Media in one way or another:

• Adobe® Acrobat® Connect™ Pro is a collaboration system hosted at Ryerson that provides audio, video, and data collaboration services. If you are interested in using Connect, please contact the Digital Media Projects office.
• CCS manages a Flash Media Server that provides streaming services and has been used for things like the RU Ryerson Video contest. Contact Ryerson's Digital Media Projects office for more information on streaming services using Flash Media Server.
• Ryerson is working with http://epresence.tv to develop an easy-to-use lecture, seminar, and event streaming service for the University. For more information on using epresence in the classroom or for streaming an event please contact Media Services. Ryerson's epresence-based service is here: http://ryecast.ryerson.ca.
• Distance Education at Ryerson makes use of Flash Media. See the Digital Education Strategies at The Chang School portal for more information.
